Beginning in the summer of 2011, artist David Chamberlain invited Melissa to collaborate on his "Chamberlain Method" monotype oil paintings. Using techniques which were serendipitously similar to those Melissa had developed in her own exploration of fabric mono-printing (as well as an endless array of invented techniques), the "duo" has spent countless hours in the Chamberlain Studio (Sodus Point NY) and has created imagery which goes beyond that of an individual artist.
In this style of collaboration, the two artists work together at the same time on the same oil painting - each one contributing color, marks, and gestures - playing back and forth as the work develops. Each painting is done on a polycarbonate sheet which is then printed via an etching press onto fine art paper. Only one print can be made from each painting.
