vested interests (2015)

        a set of a dozen vests


Created from oil-on-paper duett collaborations by Melissa Matson and David Chamberlain, each vest is made from several paintings and is hand-cut and sewn by Melissa. The viewer is encouraged to discover all angles of the vest, including the back and the often-intricate "linings". Pockets, welts, and various closures are all designed as each piece takes on its own character.


Each vest is made of oil-on-paper and thread, and is suspended from the wall by a wood and clothes-hanger-wire hanger.


On display (2015) at Bausch & Lomb (1400 North Goodman Street, Rochester NY); and (2016) at the Geisel Gallery (Legacy Tower, One Bausch & Lomb Place, Rochester NY).
"Drawn Together" - April 2016
This exhibit at the Geisel Gallery (Legacy Tower building, One Bausch & Lomb Place, Rochester NY) featured the work of three Rochester artists: Nancy Valle (ceramics), A. J. Dungan (abstract paintings), and Melissa Matson (dyed fabric plus three-dimensional paper vests made from duett collaborations with David Chamberlain). Arranged in mixed groupings by curator Jean Geisel, the works are wonderfully "drawn together" by their textures, colors, and energy.
